MTB Info

The new route first follows the Soča River and climbs below Mt. Krn. Crossing the Zatolmin mountains, the route passes the world-famous memorial church on Javorca, before descending back into the valley of the Tolminka river. The route then follows the Tolminka river all the way to the starting point at the confluence of Soča and Tolminka.

Between the festival venue in Tolmin and the village of Kamno in the valley, the route runs almost entirely on gravel paths and cart tracks along the Soča River. In the village of Gabrje, the route turns away from the river and bites into the first steep, but short ascent. Reaching the village of Volarje, the route descents back down towards the river.

Most of the ascent between the villages of Kamno and Krn runs on a well-maintained asphalt road. After Krn, the route turns into a forest road in the direction of Mt. Pretovč. A short section of this path is very narrow and competitors need to dismount their bikes here.

Near the hunting lodge on Mt. Pretovč, the trail joins the connecting route between the Zatolmin mountains. The latter runs mostly downhill on a gravel path from Mt. Medrje across Mt. Laška seč, Črča, Zagrmuč and Javorca, all the way to Mt. Polog. At the Javorca Memorial Church, the route runs on a scenic paved road. In the valley, it reaches a well-maintained forest road, which is mostly gravel, but also has a few asphalt sections.

At the church of St. Peter, which is located at the entrance to the Triglav National Park, the route turns left towards Tolmin and then to the Tolminka River. The last part of the route follows the river all the way to the marathon starting point at the confluence of Soča and Tolminka.

Family Cycling Loop 1

Distance: 23km

Elevation: 400m +/-

Difficulty: family cycling on quiet gravel and asphalt roads

Average time: 3h

MTB Info

A cycling loop around Tolmin is a perfect choice for active families and all those who love cycling in nature. It is a great opportunity for the family members and friends of the participants on the various festival competitions, who want to make the most of their time in the Soča Valley. As the name implies, the Family Cycling Loop is not competitive in nature, so the cycling time of the participants is not measured. Participants must adhere to road traffic regulations. The route is made up of well-groomed gravel paths and quiet asphalt roads.

The cycling adventure begins at the main venue of the Soča Outdoor Festival, located at the picturesque confluence of Tolminka and Soča rivers. The gravel road, which is surrounded by green meadows and stunning views of nearby peaks, first takes us to a road junction at the village of Gabrje, where we can decide on a shorter or longer version of the route. The shorter one turns back in the direction of Tolmin and follows a quiet asphalt road towards the village of Dolje. The longer version of the route, however, continues on a pleasant gravel road along the turquoise Soča and through the village of Volarje all the way to the village of Kamno. From here on, the route continues on an asphalt road, turning back towards Tolmin and rejoining the shorter route version in Gabrje. A slight ascent between the villages of Dolje and Zatolmin is well rewarded with a refreshing descent to the entrance of the famous Tolmin Gorges, from where we cycle next to Tolminka river all the way back to the festival venue and finish the loop.

Family Cycling Loop 2

Distance: 13km
